When being yourself feels like disappointing everyone else.

You can love your family, value your culture, and still feel exhausted by the version of yourself you have to perform to keep everyone comfortable.

You should not have to choose between belonging and breathing room.

For many South Asian and first-generation clients, an ordinary decision can turn into a referendum on loyalty. Setting a boundary feels disrespectful. Dating becomes a family negotiation. Rest feels irresponsible. Success brings pride, pressure, and the fear that one wrong choice will undo everything your family sacrificed.

This work will not reduce that conflict to “people-pleasing,” or tell you to cut everyone off and call it healing. We will look at the expectations that protect connection, the ones that keep you stuck, and the values you want to carry forward on purpose.

This is why Unravel exists.

I created Unravel Counselling for the contradictions that do not fit into a neat self-help answer. Family love and family pressure can coexist. Achievement can bring confidence and guilt. A boundary can be an act of care without becoming a rejection of where you come from.

Drawing from person-centred, ACT-informed, trauma-informed, somatic, relational, and EMDR approaches, we will work with the whole context—not ask you to edit it out. The goal is not to become less caring, less connected, or less yourself. It is to stop carrying every expectation as if it were yours alone.

Keep what is yours.
Question what is not.
